Winter Road Update: The James Bay Winter Road will reopen at 5:00 PM on March 19. Crews are continuing to widen the stretch between km 40 and 65, which remains reduced to a single lane due to the large volumes of snow.

If you plan to travel through this area, please proceed with caution as heavy equipment is actively working to restore two-lane access.

Be prepared to yield to oncoming traffic in this section—you may need to reverse to a wider area to safely pass.

Please be aware and use caution when approaching heavy equipment and flooding crews.

A big THANK YOU to all of the crews working on the road who have worked in very difficult conditions - we couldn't do this without you.

ABOUT US

The James Bay Winter Road connects the communities of Attawapiskat, Fort Albany, and Kashechewan to Moosonee through the annual construction and maintenance of an ice road. From Moosonee there is a rail link to the main Ontario provincial highway system at Cochrane.

The James Bay Winter Road is operated and managed by Kimesskanemenow LP, a limited partnership between the four communities it connects, Attawapiskat, Fort Albany, Kashechewan and Moose Cree First Nations. The word kimesskanemenow is a Cree word which means our road.

This website provides road users with up to date road status and conditions, and provides access to the past newsletters, employment opportunities with Kimesskanemenow LP, and contact information.
